Throw New Year’s Resolutions Out The Window!

bigstock-New-Year-S-Resolutions-2485890I Intentionally Never Make New Year’s Resolutions. After all, think about all the years gone by when you determined that you would finally get moving on that business idea of yours, or get healthier by eating better and exercising, or spend time working on that book you always wanted to write, only to look up at the end of the year no further along than the previous year. That’s because resolutions don’t work. And to add bad icing to that cake, resolutions set you up to feel bad about yourself when you fail to complete them.

So this year, if you want a new reality then you need a different approach. Instead of setting yourself up for failure, set yourself up for success by elevating your effectiveness and efficiency and taking clear action steps towards your goals.

Of course, you are asking: “Well, how do I do that?”

Well, I am going to give you an answer, you will not expect.

You get things done more efficiently and with greater effectiveness by RELAXING! Yes, you read correctly! I know, it sounds paradoxical. Get things done more effectively by relaxing.

But, like all aspects of life, it’s a matter of mindset. It’s a question about how you are approaching life and its daily tasks, as well as your dreams and goals. If you are approaching your goals stressed-out, then you cannot be effective.

Quite often, I hear people say that they do their best work under pressure. Bulls–t!  It’s all a big fat lie! No human being works better under pressure. You actually close off your ability to be creative and come up with new possibilities when you are stressed out. Your biological response under stressful conditions does not allow for your best creativity. Stress actually puts your body into fight or flight mode, and there is no way your mind is functioning at its optimal best in that mode. It’s a biological fact!

One of the most profound things I have learned through my life experiences and in my work with my clients is that most of our stress is directly generated by our minds and how we think!  It’s that simple, and yet, most people are ill-equipped to do things differently because they just haven’t been taught that there is another way.

In order to accomplish your goals this year, you have to change your mindset and that requires learning a new way to think about how to reach your goals. Once you have a new mindset in place, then you have to take action steps that actually support those goals. And again, most people are using old time-management methods that no longer work in today’s demanding and never resting technologically demanding world.

I know hard it can be to get motivated! I know how fear of the unknown or putting yourself out there has a way of stifling your dreams. And I also know how to help you move through all of that and really start making the changes you want in your life.
